The 1950’s was an interesting time for science fiction, bringing you such classics such as “The Twilight Zone”, “Science Fiction Theatre”, “The Day the Earth Stood Still”, and “The War of the Worlds”. “FORTRESS MOON”, a game currently seeking your help on Kickstarter, is all about the 1950’s retro future. One player will assume the role of the LUNAR COLONISTS, who are discontent and fed up with the working conditions they’ve been forced to endure on Earth’s moon. As a result, they’ve taken control of thirty mine-bases in which the other players (AKA EARTH FORCES) will be tasked with taking back.
Co-Creator Thorin Thompson from Plus1Hammer Gaming had this to say:
“When my Father approached me with the idea of making a boardgame I was all for it! He had just finished reading some Old Dime Store Sci-fi Novel and it sparked some ideas about warfare on the Moon.
Before we started designing the game mechanics we began outlining the story behind the game itself. World War II devastating Earth to the point our resources for energy we’re drastically low. The discovery of Element X on the Moon and the rise of the disgruntled Miners calling themselves Lunar Colonists we’re all planned out before the mechanics of the game. We wanted a reason for everything! Why certain factions have different units than other factions or why there are only 6 Turns in the game and the story provided that.
It was a lot of fun writing the background and even more fun figuring out the rules and what worked and didn’t work. We’ve been working on this project for about 2 years now and I think we have a solid game that’s fun to play and has some amazing artwork that really captures the feel of the 1950’s Pulp Scifi Genre.
From a player stand point there is a high replay value. I can’t remember a single playtest that has been the same. There are so many different options on how to defend/attack the Moon and along with your dice rolls the Game Cards really add a special element of chance.
Fortress Moon is a 2-4 player boardgame of 1950’s Lunar Warfare and the final product we feature 280+ Miniatures of 10 Unique Sculpts along with 80+ Cards. We invite you to check out the Kickstarter and see for yourself how much fun battling on the Moon can be!”
