Time. Time is against us. No matter how much time we think we have, we always conclude that we won’t have enough of it to do the things that need done. We can’t go back and change the past and we can’t go forward to see the future. We’re stuck right here in the present, subconsciously aware that time is passing us by, one precious moment at a time.
“Your future is whatever you make it, so make it a good one.”
A lot of us don’t even give time that much thought. Some of us see it as the universal constant that tells us when we need to get up in the morning to go to work. Some of us curse it as we watch our hair turn grey and our children grow up to become adults. Time can be seen as our mortal enemy that always gets us in the end, but ironically also that which gives us the ability to make a difference in the lives of the people around us.
To make a difference. It is partially for this reason that I chose to pick up the pen and begin writing. Writing isn’t just an expression of ideas. It is an art form. It is the window into that which is our unique personality. It can make us laugh. It can make us cry. It can make us think. It can help one man build a legacy.
Now that I’ve written for a while, the question has been asked by a few people as to why I write and what inspires me to do so. Yes, I know full well that I’m not earning a dime for all of the content that I’ve written…that isn’t the point. Writing allows me to be passionate about my interests and share with others the knowledge and wisdom I have come to know in my lifetime.
Writing also allows me to goof off in my own, special way.
I cover a variety of topics because, well, I have a lot to say…and as quote unquote unlikely as it may seem to people who think I’m boring and wasting my time, there may come a time where what I have written may prove useful. What if one day, something happens to me and my son twenty years down the line, who is older and more mature at that point, starts looking for insight into who is father really was?
I write because I enjoy writing. I write because I wish to pass on what I know. I write because I feel that I have something to contribute to those who share my common interests. I write because I have a desire to educate and entertain. Some may see my articles as evidence of a crazy man, others may see it as just another blog. I have come to see it as my own personal legacy. Every time I post an article, a piece of me goes along with it.
If you enjoy writing and don’t currently, I encourage you to start today. Write about what’s on your mind. Write about the things you are passionate about. You may gawk at your writing at first, but do it enough and you’ll begin to see your jumble of words become complete thoughts topped off with a hint of your own personality. You may even find it therapeutic.
If you do plan on starting a blog to share your thoughts with the world, my advice is to stick with what you know. You won’t get a lot of views at first, not unless you’re already a social butterfly. Don’t be discouraged. Keep writing. Keep adding tags to your articles and link up with Google, Yahoo, and Bing’s search engines so your articles start appearing in searches. Write quality content…your first set of articles may only be a few hundred words but soon you’ll find it very easy to average over a thousand a day. Make sure your blog is easy on the eyes and clutter free.
“Someone once told me that time was a predator that stalked us all our lives. I rather believe that time is a companion who goes with us on the journey and reminds us to cherish every moment, because it will never come again. What we leave behind is not as important as how we’ve lived. After all Number One, we’re only mortal.”
Time…there’s no better time than now to fulfill your hopes and dreams. No better time to leave the past where it is, to pick up a pen, and begin your legacy.
