Some of you may already be familiar with “Talisman” in general, whether it be from playing the board game or via the review I wrote for “Talisman Prologue”. If you haven’t, that’s quite alright…I admit that I myself have never played the board game. If I had the money and/or space available to snatch up every game I came across, I’d be one happy camper. “Talisman”, to sum it up, puts players in the role of a character who must complete quests across multiple stages. This video game adaptation, along with “Talisman Prologue”, keeps with the feel of the original board game in that you’ll be rolling dice as opposed to clicking the mouse thousands of times like you would in the “Diablo” series.
As the title of this article implies, the “Talisman: Digital Edition” is still in the Beta stages. It’s important to stress that Betas are usually not representative of the final product. In fact, most of the game’s core features haven’t been released yet. Online multiplayer, something absent from “Talisman Prologue”, will eventually be introduced into this version. In addition to that, you can expect the following features to become available over the next few months assuming they aren’t available already:
*Multiplayer modes for up to 4 players.
*Play against AI opponents.
*14 characters to choose from.
*17 powerful spells to cast.
*Many expansions available post-release.
*Detailed, interactive tutorial.
It all sounds very promising and needless to say, I’m looking forward to seeing more as the game develops. In the meantime, feel free to check out my gameplay videos in addition to the links I provided below. The game will be available on Steam via Early Access in less than a day (as of 10/14/13), so feel free to get in on the action if you enjoy the “Talisman” series. Just remember that the games featured on Steam’s Early Access are either Alphas or Betas, meaning that you won’t have all of the bells and whistles from the get go. As a special bonus however, all purchases of this Early Access version come with a free copy of “Talisman Prologue”! (Source)
Editor’s Note: Special thanks to Carl Jackson and Don Whiteford from Nomad Games Limited for providing me with a free press copy.
