I’m conflicted. One on hand, I like this game’s art, mechanics, and overall theme. On the other, the backbone of the game is half-formed and the balance off. “The Few And the Cursed” is a deck-builder / western that tasks players with getting the most grit / VP. There is no deck-building market however…players draw two cards and choose one to add to their hand immediately, which is interesting. Again…I’m conflicted, because bad RNG can mess up your deck plans and there’s nothing you can do about it.
I’d play this game again if there were several changes made to the execution of the game. The rulebook needs to be a bit better organized and the board location icons a bit more consistent (there’s a space with the word “ruins” in the title, but it’s actually a cursed space). You can see what I’m talking about in the gameplay video below. It’s not a bad game, mind you…just could have used some more time to cook. That said, it’s a fairly good board game (if a bit long-winded) for the gamer family who can handle a moderate difficulty.
Final Verdict: 6/10 (Above Average)
